A probabilistic approach to aircraft conflict detection

چکیده
In this paper, we concentrate primarily on the detection component of conflict detection and resolution schemes operating at the mid-range and short range level of the air traffic management process. Probabilistic models for mid-term and short term prediction are introduced. Based on the mid-term prediction model, the maximum instantaneous probability of conflict is proposed as criticality measure of a two aircraft encounter situation. The computational issues involved in its estimate are solved by resorting to randomized methods which provide also quantitative bounds on the level of approximation introduced. As for short range detection, closed-form analytical expressions though approximations for the probability of conflict are obtained by using the short term prediction model. Based on these expressions, an algorithm for decentralized conflict detection and resolution that generalizes potential fields ideas to path planning in a probabilistic dynamic environment is suggested. The proposed approaches are shown to be promising using Monte Carlo simulations.

In this deliverable we study algorithms for mid-term aircraft conflict detection. A twoaircraft conflict occurs when some prescribed separation distance between two aircraft is violated. In a mid-term time scale, the contribution of the different sources of uncertainty affecting the aircraft motion cannot be neglected when predicting the aircraft future positions. Based on this consideration, w...

Based on the trajectory prediction error model proposed by Paielli and Erzberger, we propose nominal and probabilistic conflict detection algorithms using flight mode estimates as well as the aircraft current state estimates. This is different from previous conflict detection algorithms which use current state estimates only. Our algorithms are therefore based on hybrid models of aircraft, whic...

Formal methods in computer science refers to the use of logic and mathematics to verify that a system design and its implementation satisfy functional requirements and safety properties. Despite the fact that several Conflict Detection and Resolution (CD&R) systems have been proposed in the past few years, very few of these systems have been described and analyzed using formal methods. Therefor...
متن کاملRandomized Algorithms for Probabilistic Aircraft Conflict Detection
A mid-range conflict alerting system is proposed, based on a measure of criticality which directly takes into account the uncertainty in the prediction of the aircraft positions. The use of randomized algorithms makes the computation of the criticality measure tractable. The performance of the algorithm is evaluated by Monte Carlo simulation on a stochastic ODE model of the aircraft motion.
